Kate Dawson is a third-year student in Klein’s M&C doctoral program. She received her MA in English with a concentration in Film and Visual Studies from Oregon State University in 2020 and completed her undergraduate degree in Communication Studies at Temple University in 2017. Broadly, Kate’s research spans fields of film studies, film history, memory studies, and feminist theory, with a specific interest in gender and aesthetic voice.  

In May of 2022, Kate presented her paper “Solving Women’s Voices: A Theoretical Framework for Talking Through the Algorithm” at the 72nd ICA conference in Paris where it received a “top paper” commendation from the Feminist Studies Division.  

While at Oregon State, Kate taught several sections of WR121 (a gen-ed rhetoric and composition course) as instructor of record. She currently teaches Visual Communication here in Klein’s journalism department.
