Klein Global Opportunities (GO) offers Klein on the GO to bring back field trips in a new adult way! Klein on the GO brings students to destinations in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, allowing them to develop with a focus on media and communication.
September’s Klein on the GO brought students to one of the nation’s largest live broadcast studios, QVC Studio Park in West Chester, PA. QVC is a home-shopping network that broadcasts live to homes across the country from the suburbs of Philadelphia. This trip was a day-long excursion, giving Temple University students the full QVC experience.
Exploring QVC was made possible thanks to senior media studies and production student Jenna Modica. Jenna, who also serves as a peer advisor for Klein GO, interned at QVC this past summer and will hopefully join them full-time following her graduation.
“Curating this program for Klein students was the most rewarding project I have done both professionally and academically. QVC executives took their time with each student as they witnessed the live broadcast, worked in the control room, operated cameras, and met QVC hosts! It was an awesome day of learning," Jenna remarked.
The day was much more than just a tour of the studio. Klein on the GO students had real hands-on experience at QVC, learning all that goes into a live production broadcast. From seeing how production assistants mic-up hosts, exploring the control room and using the equipment, to watching the live broadcast from the studio floor, students got a taste of working in the field of media production.
Production students were just some of the ones to benefit from this trip. Advertising, public relations and communication studies majors and others saw how their areas of expertise are utilized in the professional world. Klein GO’s QVC experience brought students face-to-face with industry experts who answered all of their questions. Students learned about the company’s public relations strategies, ad campaigns and social media goals.
Junior journalism student Jake Leonard attended the trip as an opportunity to view the media and communication industry differently. “Not only did I have fun, but I learned a lot. Networking with QVC employees gave me a look at what it is like to work in the media industry. It was an experience I will never forget!”
Jesse Kosierowski, a communication studies sophomore, was excited to be fully immersed in the machine of QVC. After the trip, he noted that the highlight of the experience was his realization that he could envision working at QVC in the future.
“The entire excursion felt like it was a ‘meant to be’ moment. From the on-air talent to the atmosphere, and everything in between,” Kosierowski said, "But in particular, I really enjoyed walking through the live sets and experiencing what it would be like to model for QVC.”
Overall, students can expect to reconnect with Philadelphia, its rich culture and history, alongside fellow Klein students, faculty and staff on Klein on the GO excursions.
