In May 2023, sophomore communication studies student Jada Bromberg had the experience of a lifetime when she attended The LAGRANT Foundation Scholarship Program in New York.
The LAGRANT Foundation aims to support ethnic minorities in advertising, marketing or public relations. From offering scholarships to college students to providing workshops for professionals, the foundation is dedicated to increasing the number of people of color in the field.
The foundation caught her eye because of its commitment to helping people like her. Their scholarship also included a three-day program where recipients could network with professionals and gain insights into the communication practices of major corporations.
Following the program in May, Bromberg pursued a summer internship at strategic communications company FGS Global in Washington, D.C. Even though she was hired as an intern for the social team, Bromberg made an effort to branch out and learn about other areas of the company, such as entertainment.
Bromberg has always been interested in the entertainment industry and has recorded and performed her own music for many years. After taking MSP 2663: The Recording Industry and Music Business with Adjunct Instructor James Donio, KLN ’77, Bromberg decided to pursue Klein College’s new audio and live entertainment major in addition to communication studies.
“I learned so much about the ins and outs of the music business,” Bromberg said. She also joined the Music Business Club and will be on their e-board this fall as the social/networking events coordinator.
Donio met Bromberg before she took his class and was intrigued to hear that she had an interest in music. “At some point in the conversation, she mentioned music, and of course, then the lightbulb went on for me,” he said.
Bromberg recently did a concert for Bell Tower Music and Donio is ecstatic to see her taking the initiative to get her music out there.
In addition to the music business club, Bromberg attended several Asian Student Association events where she met media studies and production student Cobi Goldberg. The two were paired as mentor and mentee and soon realized that their cultural background was not the only thing they had in common.
After Goldberg mentioned to Bromberg that he produces music, the pair began collaborating on recording some unreleased songs that Bromberg had been working on. “We realized that she is more of the creative side and I’m more of the technical side so that combo works really well,” Goldberg said.
Donio and Goldberg never cease to be impressed by Bromberg’s accomplishments, both before getting to Temple University and in her first year here.
This year, Bromberg is looking forward to doing social media for the Communication Studies Club and LiaChorus, and she will be the vice president of the Adoptee Students Club. She will spend the spring at Temple’s campus in Rome, where she will undoubtedly continue to make an impression on everyone she meets.
