Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication is proud to announce the collaboration between Klein Global Opportunities (GO) and TUTV - Temple University Television, a CNN affiliate, to create and facilitate multimedia coverage over the span of two weeks in Paris, France, this July in partnership with NBC10.
After an extensive interview process, including portfolios, pitches and more, Natalie Koranda, Hayden Winter, Rachel Williams and Maggie Przywara were selected to participate under the guidance of Klein Career Services Director Chris Blackman.
“This was the moment I had been waiting for and the perfect opportunity to study abroad! I cannot even begin to describe how excited I am to be able to create stories internationally while covering a world-class event,” Koranda wrote.
The group will travel to Paris to gather material and content about the socioeconomic and environmental impacts of large-scale events like the 2024 Olympic Games on surrounding communities.
A crew of students in Annenberg Hall, led by Mariam Akraz and Charly Schultz, will facilitate the content. Akraz and Schultz will serve as directors and producers for the on-campus team.
Blackman noted that he feels honored to have the opportunity to help students find out what they’re made of as he joins them in Paris.
In preparation for their trip, the students have participated in cross-cultural teachings on and off campus with Director of Global Opportunities Allie Miller and Student Success Program Coordinator Hannah Braid.
Associate Professor and TUTV General Manager Paul Gluck, KLN ’76, and Blackman have also led journalism-based labs and supplied the students with insights from their expertise working in national and international television production.
“This will be my first time traveling out of the country, so it is a massive deal for me. It will be the perfect mix of work and exploration,” Koranda stated.
The result of this mix of work and exploration will air live on TUTV from the streets of Paris at noon EDT on Tuesday, July 23, Thursday, July 25, and Tuesday, July 30.
A complete program is expected to air later in the fall.
“Watching them travel thousands of miles from home to learn and apply the practices and protocols of covering a major story that will resonate with people around the world is electrifying in my view,” Gluck stated.
